Transplant
to Triumph
From being Captain of his high school hockey teams to leading large teams in the corporate world, Mark Maselli has been honing his leadership and mentoring skills for most of his life. After being diagnosed with the same chronic kidney disease that has plagued his family for generations, Mark’s determination and resilient spirit gave him the drive to break the generational cycle and overcome…
“Mark is a regular, every day, working class citizen trying to provide for him and his family— except, he is now on a mission to share his inspirational story of resilience, struggle, and ultimately triumph.”
…Post transplant, Mark is on a mission to share his story to help people transform their lives. By taking action, we can take control of our lives, better influence outcomes, and have better results. In his forthcoming book, he talks about his journey from Stage 5 renal failure to completing a marathon and the character traits needed to be successful on that journey.
Mark Maselli is not a celebrity, not a larger-than-life personality, and not public figure adored by millions. He is a regular, every day, working class citizen trying to provide for him and his family— except, he is now on a mission to share his inspirational story of resilience, struggle, and ultimately triumph.
Mark was born to teenage parents who struggled to make ends meet. By three, his parents were divorced and in third grade his mother remarried. It was not until after he was married and had two children that he lived in a home for more than two years, at age 33. Being nerdy, chubby, and always moving, Mark was frequently bullied which left him with little-to-no confidence in himself.
It was not until he was 14 years old when he was named Captain of his travel hockey team that he began to realize he was secretly a warrior. Hockey gave him the confidence he lacked in the “real world,” and taught him invaluable lessons that he still lives by today: lessons of grit, determination, discipline, resiliency, will power, consistency, and leadership.
Today, Mark is an Associate Director at a major corporation and is responsible for over $50M in annual revenue. While Mark has been tremendously successful in his business career, the road has rarely, if ever, been easy. He likes it that way, because he believes you do not get better with easy.
In 2018, Mark was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). While it is somewhat a rare disease, it unfortunately is not rare in his family, having been passed down through several generations. Determined to break the generational curse, Mark fell back on what he knows best— setting a goal and making it happen. Both his Nana and mother were 47 years old when PKD forced them to go on dialysis for more than 10 years before they received their transplants. Sadly, his Nana died 18 months after her transplant, while his mother continues to enjoy life over 11 years later.
By being proactive, Mark received his transplant just two months before he turned 47, a milestone that was not lost on him. To celebrate, Mark ran the 2024 Las Vegas Marathon just 346 days after his transplant. With no prior race experience, he set out to do what many believed was not possible. When he wanted to give up and quit, he remembered his why, which was to inspire the world, to make a difference, and to actively demonstrate what is possible when we do not put limitations on ourselves.
Mark is not stopping now, with his mission to continue to inspire, do hard things, and to break down barriers. Follow along on his socials to be inspired to join him on the journey of living life, and not just surviving it.
